A more indepth review of Evernote
Recently I have been struggling to keep abreast of all the things I need to enable me to blog more effectively. It always seemed that the various elements I need to write an article were stored either online, in a browser or in different folders on my computer. An important link would be stored on Delicious or in a bookmarks folder I had forgotten I created, an image would be stored in the image library I have started to build up and any research notes would be stored somewhere else.
All of this was making wonder just how much time I was wasting navigating through folders and opening and closing my bookmarks manager. I asked myself if there was an app around that could help me better manage my research and notes. There is. Evernote.
It does exactly what I want it to and more, and best of all, it has a free version for users who use less than 40 MB of space per monthly cycle (premium users can store up to 500 MB of data, but it comes at a cost of $5.00 per month).
10 Reasons Why You Should Download and Try Evernote
1) You can create a notebook for each of your projects
2) Within each notebook you can create multiple notes
3) Each note is given a title and can have tags attached to it
4) You can add links, research notes and pictures to each note
5) Screengrabs are a breeze – just click on the Prnt Scrn button on your keyboard and highlight the area you want to grab. The screengrab tool even tells you how big (in pixels) the image is going to be
6) You can make your Evernote notebooks available on the internet
7) New notes are saved automatically – no need to look for the ’save’ button
8) You can import bookmarks from Delicious
9) It is available for a number of platforms and can be synchronized so you can access files using any of the different platforms or just a browser
10) It is lightweight, fast and very easy to use
I have been using Evernote for a couple of weeks now and there isn’t anything I don’t like about it. I use the Evernote desktop app for Windows and it works like a dream. Maybe I will come across a few problems as I start to use it more, but, at the moment, everything is great and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to keep lots of different types of data in one file.
Evernote is available for the following platforms:
- Mac OS X Leopard
- Windows
- iPhone/iPod Touch
- BlackBerry
- Palm Pre
- Windows Mobile
- Web Clippers
- SanDisk U3
