I have to admit to being quite a messy coder, especially when it comes to CSS files. I can understand exactly what is going on in my stylesheets, but I would be quite embarrassed to show them to anybody else.
Now there is an online solution which will clean up messy code and present it back in a neatly formatted file. The newly laid out code can then be copied and pasted into the original CSS file to replace the messy stuff. The code is exactly the same, it just looks much better and could be shown to anyone without embarrassment.
The solution is Styleneat.
I like it so much I Stumbled it. It deserves it.
As with many a great thing, the beauty is in the simplicity. As an end user, you add the CSS code directly into the site, upload a CSS file or enter the URL of the CSS file you want to format.
There are a few options available to users which relate the the layout of the output file; these allow you to choose how you would like the selectors to be ordered – alphabetically or in the same order as the original file and you can choose to have a multi-line or single-line layout. The default setting is multi-line.
Once you have selected your options you hit the “Organize CSS” button and wait a moment or two for the new data to appear.
That’s it. Job done. Time for a brew.
