It’s not everyday I install a new font, in fact, today was the first time in two years I have installed a new font. And it was the first time I have ever done so on Windows Vista. In XP all you had to do was drag the font file to the fonts folder. In Windows Vista the process of adding a new font is a little more complicated.
Windows Vista stores all fonts in the same folder – C:\Windows\Fonts
To add a new font you should add the font file to a folder on your computer. I added mine straight to the C drive. Next, right-click inside the font folder (C:\Windows\Fonts) and click on “Install New Font…“.
A window like the one below will appear (click for a better view).
Navigate to the folder on your hard drive where you have stored the new font – Windows Vista should automatically find the font file when you highlight the directory (in my case C:) and then click “Install”.
That’s it. Rather a long-winded way of adding a new font in Windows Vista, but I guess the guys at Microsoft have their reasons.
