It’s not everyday I install a new font, in fact, today was the first time in two years I have installed a new font. And it was the first time I have ever done so on Windows Vista. In XP all you had to do was drag the font file to the fonts folder and the job was done. In Windows Vista the process of adding a new font is a little more complicated.
All fonts live in the same folder – C:\Windows\Fonts
The fonts here are used by programs such as Word, Photoshop and Photoshop Elements.
To add a new font you should add the font file to a folder on your computer. I added mine straight to the C drive. Next, right click inside the font folder and click on “Install New Font…“.
A window like the one below will appear.
Navigate to the folder on your hard drive where the new font file is stored – Windows Vista should automatically find the font file when you highlight the directory (in my case c:) and then click “Install”.
That’s it. Rather a long winded way of adding a new font in Windows Vista, but I guess the guys at Microsoft have their reasons.
